Hinge pin removal
« on: 06 December 2009, 08:20 »
Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a special tool for removing the aileron hinge pins?
I am having trouble removing the inboard(wing Root end) hinge pin I have got the others out by drilling out the rivets and gentley tapping the pins with an allen key.
If there is no tool any suggestions on how to remove it would be appreciated.

Thanks
Adam

Hi Adam

I had the very same problem with my ASW15 during refinishing the wings.  The method you're using is exactly the same as how i did it (under supervision of an inspector).  One however just refused to come out and we ended up cutting the pin from the hinge, which resulted in the purchase of a new hinge and pin. I'll wait until your sitting down to tell you the price!

Good luck though. (Photos of hinge etc are on facebook - the link is below)
