prototype, wheel
« on: 29 December 2008, 03:17 »
Hi there,
I am busy building a rc-scale-modell of the old prototype D-4425. can anyone help me with a drawing or photo of the area around the fixed wheel. Was there a kind of skirting, or what did Mr. Waibel do to minimize the aerodynamic problems of the "hole in the fuselage"?  Does the plane still exist at all?
I´ll be thankfull for any support...
happy new year,
Jan

I would be happy to do that and email it to you.

Hello Scott,
what a friendly offer!
Sorry about my last post,- it wasn´t redy to be sent and my time ran suddenly short.
I pessimistically presume, your bird is equipped with a retractable wheel, right? - what I`m really after is a view underneath the prototypes fuselage. I only found a tiny drawing in the Aircraft-Museum Hannover.
It must have had a fixed wheel (non-retractable, no flaps or lids), but some kind of skirtin-board around the edge, maybe similar to the main-wheel of a ASK 21 or G-103 Twin Astir.
The llast thing I would do would be to molest the people of Schleicher in Poppenhausen with this… In case I was too much a pessimist and you or anyone else can really help me with a photo,- WOW !!!

P.S.:  I wanted to send you the drawing... got problems with the picture-file...
wish you luck with your balancing/refurbishing problems - hope they are none!

kind regards,
Jan
