Gear door replacement
« on: 16 October 2008, 23:23 »
I need to remove and repair or replace the gear doors on an ASW-15a. Does anyone have experience and a description of how to remove and re-install the doors?

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,

Welcome at the ASW 15 website.

To get the best result, turn over the fuselage. Remove the wheel and next drill out the nails. Be sure not to use to much force, you could slip with the drill or go to deep.

Good luck!

I agree, basically just do it, Fiberglass is infinitely
repairable. Whatever Happen,s you will be able to fix it. You have two choices, remove the doors from the hinges (which is what I recently did), or remove the doors and hinges from the fuselage.

Thanks for the input. As I dont have access to the aircraft in question yet, can you tell me how the doors are attached to the hinges? Bolts that are easily removable or will I need to drill out some other type of permanant attachment method?

They are normally pop riveted but might be bolted. Why do you want to remove them?

Both doors are damaged and need repair.
