Maximum distance
« on: 17 June 2004, 20:14 »
Hi,

I am very curious what the maximum distance is, ever flown with an ASW15. I saw in my plane logbook that the former owners had several 300 km made with it.  So post your record!    And surprise me

Hello Johan,
I'm sorry to be posting so much as a newcomer
but you asked the question and I think this may be good information for you.
A person that I have worked with at many of his
contests in recent years, Karl Striedieck, flew his ASW-15, 1025.02 km (630.70 mi) on the ridge out of Port Matilda, PA,USA on 07/10/1972.
I don't fly cross country very much so my personal best in the 15 of 210 miles (337.96 km) in 1988 isn't very much by comparison.  Karl of course has set many  records since that time and has I believe, 9 national
championships.  Regards, Gale

I´ve flown 505 FAI triangle.
Often more than 500.
My girlfriend made a 550 one last year.
By her first launch with it.

Bad witch...

The log book of my 15 (15152) shows a 500 km flight along the ridge in Pennsylvania nearly 30 years ago. I'm going to try to duplicate the feat this spring or next fall.  I still have alot to learn about ridge flying, however.

Coincidently, I was at Ridge Soaring in Pennsylvania a couple of years ago and one of the tow pilots/instructors overheard me talking to another 15 owner.  As I was strapping in for a flight in a Grob 103 he walked up an asked me if I had ever come across his old 15,  contest letters "CT". "I sure have", I said, "Its mine!" It is a small world. He had owned it in New York many years ago. It was sold to a guy in Louisianna (more than 1000 miles away) and I bought it from him after it sat in a trailer, unflown for more than seven years .  I brought it back to New Jersey (another 1000 miles) and it is currently at the ridge waiting for the spring ridge season.
