Tailplane pins
« on: 24 February 2008, 12:46 »
Hi

I was busy doing my airworthiness inspection on the 15 this weekend, and when checking the elevater pins I found that two of them were actually loose and were freely turnable. Has anybody else had this problem with the the pins in the elevator?

I wrote the Schleicher for a repair scheduel on have to get to the pins and tighten them. So i'll see what happens.

Cheers

Strange, In my plane the nuts are painted with the metal. So, for to get loose the paint has to get cracked first.

Is it the pins that are loss in the tail plane or are they loss in the tailplane drive? if the latter then you can get oversize pins from ASW this is what we have done on our 15.
hope this helps

hey

I got the pins tightened. As it turns out the previous owners replaced the pins with over sized ones, but didn't cut the thread on the back of the pin far enough, so it couldn't be tightened far enough. All is good now though.
