TE Probe Tail Mounting
« on: 23 April 2007, 09:02 »
I'm trying to have a Ilec TE probe mounted on my '15. It seems that one will have to cut a hole in the rear of the fin to mount the probe from the backside of the fin. If anyone has any information ar better yet some pictures or drawings would be a great help.

Thank You,
Bob

After speaking with Eastern Sailplane we installed the fin mounted TE Probe on my '15 last night. For anyone thinking of doing this, the job wasn't too hard as long as you spend some time to ensure that everything gets lined up right. We had to remove the rudder and drill a hole in the rear fin, but this let us see inside the fin and made things much easier. My A&P had a drill bit for plexi glass the worked well for drilling the hole slowly in the front of the fin. After the holes are drilled we installed the tubing and epoxied the mount into the fin.
Now all I need is some good weather to try it out.

Keep up the great web sit!!

Thanks for this "How-to"> I am very curious if the fin mounted probe gives better results.

Hi Bob, so are you happy with the tail mount? Did it help? Can you desribe the exact position and the lengths of the probe you used?
Tibor
