Hello everyone,
Just took the plunge and bought an ASW 15. I have a question concerning the elevator and it's locking pin. This is not the B model and I do not know if most of the construction is similar or not between the two models. Improvements aside, anyone know if they are?
Anyhow, about that elevator. The small spring loaded pin that attaches the elevator panel and mates it with the other one seems to look very short. It must only enter the recieving hole by a small amount. I do need to measure it, but just guessing here, I would say it is maybe 1/4" long or about 1 cm long. I'll check the documents but thought I'd ask here for some added info.
Thanks
Craig

Congratulations on your purchase, I hope your 15 gives you as much enjoyment as I have had from mine.
As far as the elevator goes, mine is the same, I too would have to measure but the spring loaded pin only seems to pull out about 1 cm.
Never has been a problem, although I do put a piece of tape across it to stop it moving outward as a precaution (makes me feel better).
Im sure no one wants to lose the stabilator.
But you check out your documentaion, I wouldnt want to be responsible for an incorrect fitting of a control surface.
Have fun in your new to you 15.
:)

Hi Craig,

Congratulation!

I have a -15 (not a B ) and the same spring size as you. I do the same as Clinton: I put tape in each flight, just to make me feel more safe. But, my partner do not put tape each time and it's ok to.

I very enjoy my glider, I hope you will have fun with yours.

Nicholas

Thanks guys, I was thinking of doing the very same thing you mentioned, taping the the tab on the trailing edge of the stabilator. I might send off an e-mail to Eastern Sailplanes and ask about this. So far it appears everyone has been flying with 1cm of locking pin for 30 plus years, so must not be an issue.
