ASW-15 control inputs
« on: 25 October 2006, 10:45 »
My ASW-15 has a significant difference in the pressure required when moving the stick.  Aileron inputs are free and easy but the elevator has quite a bit of resistance. The elevator pushrod shows some wear as it passes through the first bulkhead.  I thought this was the problem.  I disassembled the connection just after the first bulkhead which freed the stick.  This now leads me to believe that the induced resistance is somewhere further in the tail cone.

Does anyone have a similar problem and do you have any suggestions to fix this?

Thanks.

Here is some information for you....

http://www.faa.gov/aircraft/safety/alerts/saib/media/ACE-98-11.htm

Alexander Schleicher has determined that there has been service history showing that control system (ailerons and elevator) guides become dirty and sticky in their movements by debris from the landing gear. To eliminate this possibility, Alexander Schleicher has issued Technical Note No. 4 that requires the installation a dust cover. For your information, Alexander Schleicher Technical Note No. 4 is enclosed. The FAA highly encourages you to ensure that this modification has been accomplished on your sailplane. If this modification has not been accomplished, the manufacturer has estimated that it will take approximately two hours to accomplish. Alexander Schleicher has the parts available to accomplish this modification. The cost is approximately $30.00 U.S. dollars. (Model ASW-15 only)

you might find its he bearingsin the bellcrank in the tail!
we had the same proplem in ours 15. you will ned to take the rudder off and cut holes in the tail just above where you put the tailplane in. and there is an panel in the fin post that can be cut out to help. not an easy job, but did help!
