Fit into A or B
« on: 31 January 2006, 04:50 »
I'm looking to buy an ASW15. So last saturday I drove 1400km to check out an ASW15. An "A" model, but with a retractable gear. However, I could not properly fit into the cockpit (i'm 1.88m and i have rather long legs).
The next day I tried an B model at my airfield and found that I fitted rather fine.
Is there thus a big difference between the 2 models, or am I just going crazy?
Thx

You don't have to worry about your mental wellbeing. I'm almost two metres and I fit in a 15 (Yes, it hurts after a while:blink: ) I think the difference between the two is the layout of the dashboard (aka the heigt of the arches), the thickness of the chute/cushion used and the backrest.

I am  modifing the dashboard (still) so there are bigger arches and I have a less painful flights.

Regarding to the book "Rhoenadler" besides the other differences like the rudder, waterballast and the bigger wheel the B also has a slightly longer cockpit (just a few cm). From my experience this makes a lot of difference. I do not comfortably fit into an early-model 15, but I do fine in a 15B and can sit there for several hours (184cm).

Hi,

I'm 6'1'', slim with very long leg and I fit in my ASW 15 with a big military chute. The first time no, but after trying a couple of configuration, I got 1 or 2 inch between my head and the canopy. I fly with the backrest but you can remove it, and replace it with a cushion or sit directly with a big chute.
