Hi Adam,
I've read this old message of yours, in which you reported to have found the first rib on both wings cracked (#15156).
Unfortunately, I found #15106 root wing ribs cracked, a few days ago, during the annual inspection.
My mantainer contacted AS and they say (but we are waiting for them to put down in writing) that, rather than replacing them, moulding the ribs in fiber is an adequate action.
I was wondering if you remember which actions were made to repair your 15's ribs.
Thanks in advance for your answer.
Giancarlo

P.S.: Of course, any other member's answer is welcome

Hi Giancarlo,
I can't remember what exact action was taken as I sent it to an Gliding federation of Australia approved work shop I believe they did what AS is telling you to do, I know the ribs were not replaced.

Hope it helps
Adam

Hi Adam,
thanks a lot!
Surely it helps and confirms that an active internet community is the added value of our beautiful glider.
Happy landings.

Another owner asked if I have photos of my cracked ribs.

It may be useful for someone else to have posted here the link to Dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/tjq7w1o1a5ce4j3/AAAb7zofk_C1yzA2EFLr2ODMa?dl=0, and to read some more information.

The concerned ribs are on the root of each wing, and can be inspected by removing the wings and looking inside with a little mirror.

AS says that this inconvenient is due to wood age and dryness, combined with gusts (I never landed hard, nor had ground loops on take off, nor exceeded the green arc speed or made aerobatics, just encountered very very turbulent thermals last July in Rieti).

AS, after having received the pictures and a report of my maintainer, suggests to mould the cracked ribs in fiber, without removing them, as - quite likely - Adam Howell did on his ship in 2005.

I'll post updates as soon as I can.

Happy landings.

Giancarlo
