Looking for folding canopy
« on: 05 October 2004, 01:01 »
Has someone a ASW15 with folding canopy?
It´s the last thing what I miss on my 15.
Folding canopy and folding instrument panel.
No matter in which direction.
Please tell me or sent photos.

Best Regards,

Joshy

I know of 2 ways canopy folding: The cirrus way and the libelle way.  The last is rather easy to do with no cuts in your canopy. The back side of this system is, that you loose space above your head. So if you're a tall guy like me, it won't work.  The cirrus canopy needs serious cuttings in canopy and cockpit. Only adviceable in situations when you're buying a new canopy.

Note: all those modifications has to be certified and are fairy expensive.

Hi Joshy,

there is no certified version of the stuff you are looking for.
I guess you can be helped at the AKAFLIEG Köln (academic flying group cologne). They designed a folding canopy. As far as I know, it folds the canopy backwards and it weight is at about 5 kg.

For more information take a look at the web:
                        http://www.akaflieg-koeln.de/

Maybe an eMail will solve your couriosity ;-)

Michael ;)  ;)
