Radio Antenna
« on: 29 September 2014, 16:12 »
I have a particularly bad airband radio in my ASW15. Seems likely that part of the problem is degradation of the coax cable and possibly the connection to the antenna. The cable runs to the tail fin so I presume that there is an antenna built into the fin. Is there anyway of accessing this without cutting holes anywhere? I would like to replace the whole antenna and cable back to the panel and see if things improve. Thanks.

Well I managed to get a good look into the fuselage - and in fact the cable looks OK. However i measure a nearly dead short (0.7 Ohms) on the cable - anyone know if this is normal? There is conflicting advice online.

Hi Adrian,

I am curious - what is the actual symptom you are suffering with the airband radio? I was suffering problems with my transmit. I feared a problem with the antenna, but after investigating I realised this would be impractical to replace. In the end I found the problem was not due to the antenna, but with the radio itself and in the end the problem was quite easy to fix. I am so pleased i did not start to mess with the antenna!

Regards

Martin
