Airbrakes self-deploying on aerotow
« on: 26 May 2013, 11:56 »
I had an unhappy time yesterday whilst being towed in level flight as the airbrakes kept popping open by themselves. I was doing about 75 kts at the time, so its bad news in terms of the stress it could put on the wings. Usually it takes a reasonable effort to lock the airbrakes, and I think this is still the case. It will go into the workshop before I fly it again, but in the meantime has anyone heard of this happening before?

short update - a workshop inspection has revealed nothing untoward - there was a slight adjustment required to improve the symmetry of opening/closing and that is all. The one thing I did note was that it takes very much less force to open the airbrakes than to close them. It takes a positive effort to shut the brakes, but I can crack them open with my little finger. I'd really like to know from other ASW15 pilots whether this is the same in other cases. Thanks in advance for sharing your airbrakes behaviour.
